The Bach Choir appears in a new recording of music by Will Todd in poignant homage to London, with words by Michael Rosen
In a new recording released by Signum on Friday 27 March, The Bach Choir joins Finchley Children’s Music Group to perform choral works by composer Will Todd, including a poignant celebration of London in Lights, Stories, Noise, Dreams, Love and Noodles (L.O.N.D.O.N.) with words by the UK’s most celebrated children’s author, Michael Rosen. L.O.N.D.O.N. (Lights, Stories, Noise, Dreams, Love and Noodles) was commissioned by The Bach Choir for its outreach programme in 2015 and received its first performance at Westminster Central Hall on 17 June 2016. The 25-minute work for children was a collaboration between jazz composer Will Todd and children’s author Michael Rosen, who created a modern and jazz- inspired vision of life in cosmopolitan London.

In a world premiere recording, cellist Josephine Knight champions Schumann’s Cello Concerto in its original form as a Concertstück, performed for the first time in a new edition based on the original manuscript in the composer’s hand. The recording marks the culmination of a ten-year mission including Knight’s discovery of the autograph score in the Biblioteka Jagiellońska in Kraków. A meticulously-reconstructed new edition by Knight, to be published by Edition Peters, reveals the work in its original form as Schumann intended.

The Summer Festival is the third seasonal festival presented by the Florentine New Generation Festival, which creates an international platform for the finest young musical talent while breaking down boundaries. In residence across the Festival is the Bologna-based Orchestra Senzaspine, whose members are all under 35 years old.

In a journey from darkness to light, self-discovery and enlightenment, the flute’s magic has the power to turn sorrow to joy: it celebrates the national pride of Cambodia and the revival and regeneration of the performing arts. The production involves more than 50 traditional Cambodian musicians and dancers in an international cast of 120 performers, directed by Stefano Vizioli and conducted by Aaron Carpenè.

In the approach to Easter, Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques release a new recording of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, featuring soloists Sandrine Piau and Christopher Lowrey. The disc is released on Alpha on Friday 13 March alongside two unpublished motets by Neapolitan compatriots Leonardo Leo and Nicola Porpora, presented here in their first recordings. The Neapolitan school is one of Christophe Rousset’s first musical loves, and the Pergolesi Stabat Mater is a work that has long been in Les Talens Lyriques’ repertoire.
