Biography

The New Generation Festival (NGF) was founded in 2017 to promote emerging young artists from around the world. Taking place 26 – 29 August 2020 in Florence, Italy, The New Generation Festival will be taking over the Gardens of the Palazzo Corsini for its highly anticipated fourth year, creating an international platform for the most promising young musical talent.

In 2019, the New Generation Festival expanded internationally, and now presents the finest talents in opera, music, theatre and the visual arts in a programme that runs throughout the year across spectacular locations, ranging from the Swiss mountains of Andermatt to its flagship summer festival in Florence. Hosting three festivals and a young artist recital series over Andermatt Concert Hall’s first season, the New Generation Festival team have presented artists including Daniel Barenboim and orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

Grand open-air celebrations in the Boboli Gardens of Florence’s Palazzo Pitti for this year’s transformed New Generation Festival

In an exceptional manifestation of hope and renewal, the 4th edition of The New Generation Festival will be transformed into The ReGeneration Festival, co-presented with the Uffizi Galleries and in association with the City of Florence at the landmark Palazzo Pitti and Boboli Gardens, from 26 August – 29 August 2020.

Introducing a budding cast of tomorrow’s stars in a staged production of the Cinderella story in Rossini’s magical La Cenerentola, the ReGeneration Festival will host opera, jazz with Anush Hovhannisyan, and concerts at the Palazzo Pitti in collaboration with Musica con le Ali and in the charming ornamental gardens of Palazzo Corsini al Prato.

New Mascarade Opera Studio announces first participants

Mascarade Opera Studio announces its first ten Studio Artists following applications from ambitious opera talent from all over the world. From September 2020, the new opera studio launching in Florence will offer its nine-month training programme for eight exceptional young singers and two répétiteurs.

Beyond the carefully-designed programme of enhanced opera skills training and continuing professional development, Mascarade Opera Studio Artists will become part of the international New Generation Festival network, with its connections and career opportunities. Held in the historic Palazzo Corsini al Prato in Florence, places on the programme for singers and répétiteurs are fully funded.

The New Generation Festival in Florence announces live Instagram concerts to raise funds for hospitals in Lombardy

The New Generation Festival in Florence launches The Action Station, featuring daily 15-minute livestreams on Instagram, launching today, Wednesday 25 March, and running every weekday at 16:00 GMT / 17:00 CET. The daily Regeneration Broadcasts will present a fabulous flurry of new generation opera singers, classical musicians, jazz cats, DJs, drag queens, and many more.

Each broadcast will take place to raise spirits but also to help those fighting on the front line against Covid-19 by raising money for specific organisations or causes. There is the opportunity to donate however small or large an amount you wish to the weekly cause publicised via the link in NGF’s Instagram profile. Even just 1 € / £ / $ adds up fast and will greatly help those in need.

Radiohead, Brahms, Mozart opera and Harlem jazz heard in Switzerland’s newest concert hall for Andermatt Summer Music Festival 2020

Genre-bending programming weaves Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, the jazz of Harlem, Brahms and Radiohead together in the four-day Andermatt Music Summer Festival 2020, taking place from 23-26 June. The four-day Festival celebrates one year since Andermatt Concert Hall, Switzerland’s newest concert hall, was inaugurated by the Berliner Philharmoniker.

The Summer Festival is the third seasonal festival presented by the Florentine New Generation Festival, which creates an international platform for the finest young musical talent while breaking down boundaries. In residence across the Festival is the Bologna-based Orchestra Senzaspine, whose members are all under 35 years old.

The new concert hall in Andermatt opens its doors to the New Generation Festival, launching in October

Following the grand opening of Switzerland’s newest concert hall amid the mountain scenery of Andermatt, the New Generation Festival launches three seasonal festivals commencing with a three-day Autumn Festival (24-26 October). Inaugurated by the Berliner Philharmoniker on 16 June, the hall has been described by the Luzerner Zeitung as possessing: “a stormy and rich sound, which overwhelmed up close in the front rows and achieved the urgency you wish for from every concert on the balcony.”

Mascarade Opera Studio puts sports psychology at the heart of its young singers’ programme

A new opera studio, Mascarade Opera Studio, launching in Florence in September 2020, will put sports psychology at the heart of its nine-month programme for emerging professional opera singers. Studio Director Dr Ralph Strehle, a performance coach at the National Opera Studio and Associate Head of Vocal Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, will apply Premier League sports training techniques – motivation, concentration and pre-and post-performance routines – to its ground-breaking opera programme.

The New Generation Festival returns from 28 to 31 August 2019 with performances of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro held in the ravishing ornamental gardens of Florence’s Palazzo Corsini al Prato with a budding young cast of tomorrow’s stars. The festival was established to create an international platform for the finest young operatic talents, and now announces long-term initiatives including a cross-border New Generation Concert Series with the new Andermatt Concert Hall in Switzerland (opening June 2019). The Festival will establish the Mascarade Opera Studio from September 2020 to provide young emerging singers with a 9-month residency tailor-made to their needs.
