Gianluca Marcianò calls for talented string musicians to join the Al Bustan Festival Orchestra Academy for the 2017 festival
Enterprising conductor and Artistic Director Gianluca Marcianò announces the creation of the Al Bustan Festival Orchestra Academy in Lebanon with co-founder Maxim Novikov. The objective of the Orchestra Academy is to select players of the violin, viola, cello and double bass and prepare them for the demands of a professional career, with an opportunity to perform at the 2017 Festival with world-renowned musicians. The full programme for the 2017 Al Bustan Festival will be announced on 15 December.
Charles Owen announced as new Steinway & Sons UK Ambassador ahead of Bach partitas album release
British pianist Charles Owen has been appointed Steinway & Sons’ UK Ambassador ahead of the release of his latest album – Bach’s Six Keyboard Partitas – on Avie. As part of his new position, Owen will host a series of three exclusive master classes at Steinway Hall in London. Steinway & Sons explain that the master classes are “aimed at the UK’s next generation of pianists, students will have the opportunity to spend the day at Steinway Hall, to perform a piece of their choice on a Steinway & Sons grand piano and to receive personal feedback and advice from Charles himself, guiding and improving each student’s technical skills and performance.”
Joanna Marsh to mark 40th anniversary of the admission of women undergraduates to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge
Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, has commissioned Resident Composer Joanna Marsh to write three new works, commencing with Martha and Mary to mark the 40th anniversary of women’s admission as undergraduates of the College. On 22 October 2016 following a seminar with Sidney Sussex alumnae discussing their careers in various fields, the Choir of Sidney Sussex will perform the world premiere of Marsh’s new anthem Martha and Mary during Evensong.

Established in 1998, the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra (formerly Oxford Philomusica) under Music Director Marios Papadopoulos MBE, introduce a 2016/17 season featuring a host of exceptional guest artist appearances, many of whom are returning to the orchestra for a second time or more. With music from the age of Purcell through to two world premiere performances by emerging University of Oxford student composers, the season is presented across a number of Oxford’s historic venues, including the orchestra’s home in Sir Christopher Wren’s 17th century Sheldonian Theatre.
